The Center for Homeland & Global Security is a major U.S. and international resource for facilitating the involvement of the corporate sector in homeland and global security.
The Bush Administration has asked for the help of the corporate sector in developing products, services, and strategies which can be instrumental in strengthening our security and winning the war against terrorism. With more than $40 billion appropriated for U.S. homeland security spending in FY 2004, the corporate sector now has the financial resources to respond in the following areas:
- Enhancing First Responder Programs
- Protecting the Technology of U.S. Government Agencies
- Protecting Critical Infrastructure
- Improving Transportation Security
- Securing America's borders
- Combating Bioterrorism, Nuclear
- Terrorism, & Chemical Terrorism
- Strengthening Intelligence Sharing
At the same time, strengthening the security of the rest of the world is also compelling. The reconstruction of Afghanistan cannot begin without security. Allied countries are also targets of terrorism and need their security enhanced. Companies and humanitarian organizations with worldwide operations are on alert against attacks on their personnel and facilities. American and allied embassies around the world continue to be terrorist targets. And the safety of international gatherings, from the World Economic Forum to the Olympics, continue to be of major concern. The Center For Homeland & Global Security facilitates the involvement of the corporate sector by organizing international forums bringing together the corporate and governmental sectors, by assessing new security needs, by identifying new programs requiring the involvement of the corporate sector, and by explaining the procurement procedures of the governmental agencies coordinating homeland and global security.
The Center is a division of Equity International, a top American business development firm which has been a leader in facilitating the corporate response to terrorism. Equity International organized a high-level Washington forum in 1998 focusing on Osama bin Laden, attended by the security directors of major U.S. corporations. In 1999, the firm hosted another high-level Washington forum targeting cyber terrorism, featuring the President's counterterrorism director. Over 4,000 major corporations, organizations, agencies, and governments have participated in the summits, conferences, and forums of Equity International, which have received news media coverage from CNN and other major news organizations.
